A composition's number in the Roud Folk Song Index, Steve Roud's index of English-language traditional song.[unverified]
Worth recording for two reasons. It tells a reader where to find a fuller account than this wiki carries, and it is a stable way to say that two songs collected under different names are the same song — which is the hard problem here, not page count.[unverified]
Roud covers traditional song. It does not cover most instrumental fiddle tunes, and covers nothing written recently, so most compositions here will not have one. Where another index does cover a repertoire, that number is worth recording too, and this property will need company.[unverified]
